Lockton Community Service

When tornadoes destroyed Greensburg, Kansas, in May 2007, Lockton Associates immediately asked what could be done to help. An Associate suggested waiting a few months until the town could determine where Lockton could make the most impact. Five months later, a caravan of Lockton Associates drove into Greensburg.

GIVING BACK

The volunteers formed four teams that would work throughout a long weekend cleaning up storm debris and building the Volunteer Village community center and two separate residences.

Whether providing aid following a natural disaster, participating in fund-raising events, or responding to local causes with dollars, sweat equity, and an abundance of caring, Lockton volunteers log significant totals in time and donations worldwide. In the last year, Associates in Lockton offices supported 239 U.S. charities. Lockton participation in United Way campaigns averaged 83% with giving totaling nearly $1 million. Sponsorship support for the fiscal year totaled $3,857,491 around the world.

LIFETIME MEMORIES
While collective volunteer hours and dollars add up to impressive annual amounts, greater still are the lasting impressions that individual Associates take away from their participation. Lockton’s Environmental Risk Consultant Matt Pateidl, who helped erect roof trusses at the Greensburg houses being rebuilt, remembers, "When that last truss was finally nailed in place, the home owner approached me. I offered my hand and he pulled me into a tremendous hug. It was a great sense of accomplishment to finish the project and help these people after all they’d been through."

Team Lockton competed in the London Marathon and raised more than £15,000 for Whizz-Kids, the Lockton U.K. charity of the year, which aids disabled children.
Associates from Lockton in Chicago spearheaded a Rubber Ducky Derby to benefit Special Olympics.
